JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA (Spain): Italian Francesco Bagnaia won the Spanish MotoGP at Jerez on Sunday ahead of France's reigning world champion Fabio Quartararo, who increased his lead at the top of the championship. Spaniards Aleix Espargaro and Marc Marquez took the next two places as Spaniard Alex Rins, who started the race level on points atop the standings, failed to score.
JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA (SPAIN): Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia signalled a return to form by scorching his way to pole position for the Spanish MotoGP as fastest qualifier at the Jerez track Saturday. The Italian was a massive 0.453sec faster than reigning world champion and current championship leader Fabio Quartararo with a sizzling 1min 36.17sec fastest lap.
It was Ecstar Suzuki’s Joan Mir, the 2021 champion, who hit the front on lap one, opening a 0.7s gap over the chasing pack, headed by Quartararo.
The perfect conditions on Saturday morning at Jerez allowed lap time improvements on the combined order to come in almost immediately in the third and final 45-minute practice of the weekend.
