Interestingly, newly appointed BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar has retained Hardik Pandya as the T20I captain with senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested. Both the players have been missing out on the shortest format of the game since the T20 World Cup 2022 and Hardik has been leading the team in the T20Is.

Young Indian batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma got their maiden national T20I callups as they were named in India's T20I squad for West Indies Tour. Hardik Pandya will be leading the side in the five-match contest, while Suryakumar Yadav will be his deputy. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not part of the T20I squad for the West Indies series though they are part of the ODI and Test squads. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi also made comeback into India's T20I team. This is the first squad to be picked under the leadership of new BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who was appointed in the top post on Tuesday.

Former India all-rounder Ajit Agarkar was on Tuesday appointed the BCCI chief selector for the Indian men's cricket team. represented the country in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is, in addition to playing 110 first-class, 270 List A, and 62 T20 matches. As a former fast bowler, he was part of India's victorious squad in the inaugural T20 World Cup held in South Africa in 2007. He still holds the record for the fastest half-century by an Indian batter in ODI, achieved with a 21-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in 2000.

Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar's appointment as chairman of senior selection committee seems to be a mere formality after he appeared for a virtual interview on Tuesday with Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) headed by Ashok Malhotra. It is understood that BCCI wants to get done with formality of appointment as Agarkar, after taking over, will chair the selection committee meeting for the T20I squad that will play five games in the West Indies. "Agarkar is the only candidate who appeared for interview. It was a virtual one as he is currently abroad on a family break," a BCCI source informed PTI.

Former India bowler Ajit Agarkar has applied for a position in India's senior men's selection committee, according to ESPNcricinfo. The BCCI advertised on June 22 inviting applications for vacant spot in the Men's Selection Committee. The vacancy has not been filled since the last chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma resigned. Agarkar applied a day before the deadline on Thursday. The 45-year-old will be a leading contender for the post of chairman of selectors. Agarkar has played 26 Tests and 191 ODIs for India. If Agarkar is chosen, the panel would have two selectors from West Zone, with Salil Ankola being the other one from this zone. The other three selectors are Shiv Sunder Das, S Sharath, and Subroto Banerjee.

Agarkar, as an assistant coach with DC and as a commentator, earns way more than current annual package of chief selector and hence, the BCCI will have to review the existing pay structure.
