As T20 World Cup Nears, BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar Says If Virat Kohli "Puts Forward Certain..."

The fitness blueprint designed by Virat Kohli has had a ripple effect on the whole Indian cricketing ecosystem, said chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, who has called MS Dhoni a pure instinct man of a sport that had embraced the use of data and insight long ago. Kohli might be 35 years old but he remains second to none when it comes to performing the most difficult fitness drills. "You look at guys like Virat (Kohli), he is one of those guys who set the benchmark. 10-15 years into his career, he has only got fitter, you can see the results. If someone like him sets an example and puts forward certain things that you need or certain fitness levels that you need, gradually it progresses across the ecosystem.

Cheteshwar Pujara Considered For England Tests But Not Selected - Report Reveals Reason

Indian cricket team batter Cheteshwar Pujara was considered for the last three Test matches against England in the recently concluded series but chief selector Ajit Agarkar decided to go with youngster Devdutt Padikkal, according to a report. Padikkal was included in the India squad after KL Rahul was ruled out due to injury ahead of the third Test match in Rajkot. The report claimed that Pujara was considered because of his impressive domestic record but Agarkar believed that Padikkal's height will be an added advantage against the England bowlers and he was also going well in Ranji Trophy.

Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma Unsure, Ajit Agarkar Pushed For Young Star's Test Debut: Report

India's 5-match Test series against England gave the team management the opportunity to try some of the next-generation stars. The likes of Sarfaraz Khan, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, Akash Deep, and Dhruv Jurel, all made their debuts in the series, and produced performances worthy of cementing their places in the squad, to say the least. But, it has now been learned that some of these debuts didn't come from the head coach Rahul Dravid, or skipper Rohit Sharma. Instead, it was the chief selector Ajit Agarkar who pushed the team management into selecting some of these players.

A couple of months still to go but Virat Kohli's place in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 is back in the spotlight. BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming T20 World Cup being jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA. With all-rounder Hardik Pandya still recovering from an ankle injury suffered in October last year, the board feels Rohit must continue as skipper in the format.
