Six players from finalists India and two from champions Australia were selected in the World Cup team of the tournament announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami ended the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. Shami, who had missed out on the first half of the tournament, made an entry in India's fifth league stage match against New Zealand and made an impact that a lot of bowlers have not made in their entire World Cup careers. In seven matches, Shami took 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20, with the best figures of 7/57. Shami had three five-wicket hauls and a four-wicket haul in the tournament and also gained the best bowling figures by an Indian in WC history.

India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul scripted his name on the record book after he became the first number five India player to complete 400 runs in a single edition of the World Cup on Sunday. Rahul slammed one century and two fifties in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Virat Kohli completed a tough catch as Mohammed Shami dismissed David Warner to hand India an early breakthrough during the Cricket World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Kohli had a chance to take a sharp catch on the first ball of the Australian innings but he was a bit late in reaching it. However, he made mistake on the second instant when David Warner edged it towards the slips and Kohli was ready to complete it easily.
