Ireland cricket captain Paul Stirling is relishing the prospect of leading his team to a first series win on Zimbabwean soil, but believes the hosts' recent poor run of results won't make the task any easier.
Zimbabwe Cricket on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the three-match T20 international series against Ireland and included two uncapped players. The three-match T20I series will begin on Thursday at Harare Sports Club. Middle-order batter Brian Bennett and pace bowler Trevor Gwandu have been added to the squad against Ireland. They are among the four changes made to the side that failed to secure one of the two ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2023 places that were up for grabs at the regional qualifier tournament recently held in Namibia. While leg-spinner Brandon Mavuta and batter Tony Munyonga have earned recalls, the selectors have dropped pace bowler Tendai Chatara and left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza as well as opening batters Innocent Kaia and Nick Welch.

By claiming three consecutive wickets in the 19th over of Rwanda's inning, Raza became the first Zimbabwe player to claim a hat-trick in T20Is. Namibia became the first team from the Africa Region Qualifier to qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup with a 58-run victory over Tanzania on Tuesday. The win secured Namibia's spot in the tournament, which will be held in the US and West Indies. Namibia's flawless record of five wins in five games confirmed their spot in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 and included victories over - Zimbabwe, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania. After getting ahead of Tanzania, the Eagles claimed the two points necessary for the qualification and continued to sit on top of the table with 10 points.
