India Squad For Champions Trophy: Out Of Favour Star, Axed From BCCI Contracts, Makes Surprise Entry In Spot Race

KL Rahul's presence behind the stumps during the ODI World Cup gave the Indian team the balance but the stylish Karnataka right-hander is unlikely to don the big gloves in white-ball cricket going forward. The national selection committee is expected to meet on January 19, a day after the Vijay Hazare Trophy final, to select the 15-member provisional squad for the Champions Trophy and there will be some debate on two fringe selections - the second keeper's slot and the wrist spinner in case Kuldeep Yadav fails to get fit in time.

U-19 cricket team faces Pakistan in W/Cup warm-up

3 After months of preparation, the Nigerian U-19 Women Cricket Team, Junior Yellow Greens, will face their last acid test on January 18, before the World Cup begins in Sarakawa, Malaysia.   The final warm-up match will take place today against Pakistan at the YSD-UKM Cricket Oval in Bangi at 3:30 p.m. local time. Nigeria is making her debut at the Cricket U-19 World Cup for Women as the sole qualifier from the African qualifying series in Kigali in October 2024, edging highly rated Zimbabwe, Uganda among others to pick the spot.   Captain of the Nigerian side Lucky Piety, will lead her team to face the eighth-ranked team in the world on the T20 log, where they are ranked 26th.  The president of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Uyi Akpata, said this event is a milestone for the country’s Cricket, and he believes the girls will not make light work of the moments that the World Cup presents.   “The girls have been at different camp sessions since they qualified in October, and they concluded one last weekend in India before heading finally to Malaysia. I believe these exposures will come together to enhance their performance.” he stated.   Uyi said he and the board of the Nigeria Cricket Federation are pleased with the support and encouragement that the leadership of the Nigeria Sports Commission has extended to the Federation and the team flying the country’s flag.

Pakistan Recall Imam-Ul-Haq And Abrar Ahmed For West Indies Series

Pakistan on Saturday recalled discarded opener Imam ul Haq for the Test series against the West Indies after an ankle injury forced regular opener Saim Ayub out of the series. Imam, who last played in a Test for Pakistan in Australia in 2023-24, has been joined by uncapped pacer Kashif Ali in the 15-member squad. Imam also got a call-up since the selectors have dropped Abdullah Shafique who had been opening regularly with Saim in Test and ODIs but lost form on recent tours to Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Injured Saim Ayub Likely To Be Part Of Pakistan's Provisional Squad For Champions Trophy

The Pakistani selectors have decided to name injured batter Saim Ayub in the provisional squad that will be sent to the International Cricket Council for the Champions Trophy beginning February 19. A source close to the national selectors said that Saim's form in recent months and his improvement as an opener particularly in 50-overs format has convinced the selectors he should be in the preliminary squad despite his unfortunate injury. “The selectors will keep him in the preliminary squad as the Pakistan Cricket Board has sent Saim to London to get the best medical opinion on his ankle injury in order to know if he can be fit in time for the Champions Trophy,” he said.

Rashid Khan Picks Up 11 Wickets, Carries Afghanistan To Maiden Test Series Win vs Zimbabwe

Star leg spinner Rashid Khan took his seventh wicket of the innings as Afghanistan speedily wrapped up a 72-run victory over Zimbabwe on Monday to win the two-Test series. Zimbabwe were 205-8 overnight with captain Craig Ervine unbeaten on 53 and needing 73 more runs to win the Test at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo after a drawn first Test. But the home team failed to add a run and Afghanistan needed just 15 deliveries to seal a first Test win since beating Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi four years ago.
