Cameron Green's 89 Steers Australia To Two-Wicket Win Over New Zealand In First ODI
Emerging star Cameron Green held his nerve with a career best 89 not out in Australia's thrilling two-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first one-day international on Tuesday in Cairns. After Glenn Maxwell starred with four wickets and a spectacular catch to restrict New Zealand to a modest 232-9, Australia slumped to 44-5 against inspired new ball bowling from quicks Trent Boult and Matt Henry under lights. A composed Green and Alex Carey (85) turned the match on its head with a brilliant 158-run partnership to overwhelm an increasingly ragged New Zealand attack.

More often than not, Glenn Maxwell leaves his mark on the cricket field either with his batting, bowling or fielding. His utility in all three departments makes him one of the most prominent cricketers currently. All eyes will be on him when Australia gets down to action in the T20 World Cup in two months' time. On Tuesday, Maxwell starred with four wickets and a spectacular catch as Australia restricted New Zealand to 232-9 in the series-opening one-day international on Tuesday in Cairns. After captain Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bowl, Maxwell's part-time off-spin stole the show as Australia look to rebound from a stunning defeat to underdogs Zimbabwe on Saturday which soured a 2-1 ODI series victory.
Australia vs New Zealand, 1st ODI Live Score Updates: Australia Win Toss, Opt To Bowl
Australia vs New Zealand, 1st ODI, Live Score Updates: Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to bowl first against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns. Australia had last won the series against Zimbabwe 2-1, but it is important to remember that the side suffered a seven-wicket loss in the third and final ODI. On the other hand, New Zealand are coming off a successful tour of the West Indies where they won both ODI and T20I series. It would be interesting to see what team combination both teams go in with.
