Nick Kyrgios came flying out of the blocks to win his held over match against Reilly Opelka at the Citi Open. The match was suspended on Thursday night due to the threat of stormy weather with Kyrgios winning 7-6(1) 2-1. Ad/> He made a quick start to break Opelka in the first game when the match resumed and went on to take three of the next four games in just 14 minutes to win the match 7-6(1) 6-2.

Reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu of Britain advanced to the quarter-finals of the ATP and WTA Washington Open, refusing to wilt Thursday after a marathon match in sweltering heat.

It was 1-1 in the opening set when the pair had to leave the court due to the stormy weather in the United States capital, as reported by the Daily Express. Ad/> Chair umpire Renaud Lichtenstein told the crowd: «ladies and gentlemen, play is suspended» – an announcement which did not sit well with the Australian, who responded ‘why?’, before entering into a deep discussion with the match officials after their decision to pause play.
Emma Raducanu stressed that she “died about three times” during her match against Camila Osorio as the Brit dug deep to reach the Citi Open quarter-finals.
Coco Gauff showed her mettle to overcome former world no.1 Naomi Osaka to reach the San Jose quarter-finals, winning 6-4 6-4 at the WTA 500 event. After an edgy start and being 2-1 down, Gauff went on a blistering run to win 10 of the next 13 games and win the first set 6-4, before going into a 5-1 lead in the second.
