The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) on Saturday announced a cash award of Rs 25 lakh for young Nitish Reddy, acknowledging his maiden Test century effort, which was crucial to India's fightback in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. The 21-year-old Reddy scored a resilient unbeaten 105 to steer India to 358 for nine on the third day of the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. "It is a fortunate day and a happiest moment for the Andhra Cricket Association. We are very happy that a boy from Andhra has been picked for the Test format and international T20 format. As an honour, on behalf of the Andhra Cricket Association, Rs 25 lakh prize money is being given to Nitish Kumar Reddy," (ACA) President Kesineni Sivanath said.
Nitish Kumar Reddy's under-16 coach, Kumar Swamy, was proud after seeing the 21-year-old shine in his first outing at the iconic MCG against a distinguished Australian bowling attack. When the Indian fans looked deflated after Rishabh Pant's dismissal, Nitish lifted spirits by delivering a performance to remember for years to come. With Washington Sundar at the other end, the feeling of nostalgia took over the MCG. The duo made waves by forging a 127-run partnership and lifting the Indian team to a fighting position.
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar showered praise on India's young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy after his gutsy maiden Test century on Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) here on Saturday. Reddy's unbeaten 105 spearheaded a spirited Indian fightback as they reached 358/9, trailing Australia by 116 runs. India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy silenced his doubters by smashing his maiden Test century on Day 3 of the ongoing 4th Test against Australia on Saturday. The 21-year-old remained unbeaten on 105 at stumps on Day 3 after stitching a crucial 127-run partnership with Washington Sundar (50) for the eighth wicket to take India to 385/9 in reply to Australia's 474. His knock comes after former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar questioned his place in the team, saying that it's too early to consider him an all-rounder.
Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar termed Nitish Kumar Reddy as the star of Indian cricket after the youngster scored his maiden Test hundred to rescue the side from a precarious situation in the ongoing fourth Test against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The batting all-rounder returned unbeaten on 105 at stumps on Day 3 after stitching a crucial 127-run partnership with Washington Sundar for the eighth wicket to take India to 385/9 in reply to Australia's 474. "This is the first Test hundred and he is going to score many more in the near future. I am expecting to see him among the runs in the future. He is a star of the Indian cricket," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Washington Sundar has known Nitish Reddy as a "mentally strong man" whose philosophy in life is to give his 120 percent, be it on the field or off it. "An unbelievable hundred. I mean this hundred will be talked about and remembered for a very, very long time. Boxing Day century, I think he'll forever remember it as well," said Washington, unable to stop praising the knock. Reddy's 105 not out and his 127-run stand for the eighth wicket with Washington (50) took India to 358 for 9 on the third day of the fourth Test against Australia at the MCG, which now could meander towards another draw.
