Vishwanath, Vanshaj strike gold; India claim 39 medals at Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships

Vishwanath Suresh (48kg) and Vanshaj (63.5kg) clinched gold medals in the men's youth competition as the Indian contingent concluded its campaign with a whopping 39 medals, including 15 gold, at the Asian Youth and Junior Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan. The haul also included 10 silver and 14 bronze. Indian youth boxers secured seven gold, three silver and eight bronze medals while the junior team finished with 21 medals including eight gold, seven silver and six bronze.

Nivedita provided India an ideal start for the day when she clinched a sensational 3-2 win over Uzbekistan's Saidakhon Rakhmonova.

Vanshaj (63.5kg) and Aman Singh Bisht (+92kg) registered commanding wins to enter the youth men's finals at the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan. Last edition's silver medallist Vanshaj knocked out Syria's Ahmad Nabaa in a referee stopping the contest verdict in the first round itself while Aman too produced an equally aggressive display to secure a convincing 4-0 win over Kazakhstan's Tim Ofeypotashov in his semifinal bout late on Friday night.

Vishwanath confirmed his second successive final appearance at the prestigious continental tournament after beating Miralijon Mavlonov by a split 4-1 decision.
