Karim Benzema misses late penalty as Real Madrid held by Osasuna
Karim Benzema missed a late penalty as Real Madrid dropped their first points this season after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Osasuna, who had a man sent off late on, in La Liga on Sunday. Vinicius Jr gave the champions the lead just before halftime with a long-range shot but the visitors equalised after the break through Kike Garcia, who scored with a brilliant header from the edge of the area that looped over the goalkeeper. Benzema fired his penalty off the bar and over in the 79th minute, after being fouled inside the area by defender Unai Garcia, who was shown a straight red card after a VAR check. The France striker had a goal chalked off a minute later for offside and Vinicius had a bullet shot kept out by Sergio Herrera a little later, as Real Madrid pressed for the win. Osasuna, however, held on to take a point to the frustration of the home fans.
Madrid goalkeeper Courtois sidelined with sciatica
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will miss Sunday's La Liga clash with Osasuna after his club announced he was suffering from sciatica. The Belgian goalkeeper is not expecting to be out for long, according to Spanish reports which say he will be fit to face Barcelona in the Clasico on October 16.

Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois is a doubt for El Clasico later this month after the Belgian picked up an injury. Courtois will miss Sunday night’s La Liga game at home to Osasuna with the club confirming he has been diagnosed with “left sciatica", a pain caused when the nerve running down from the lower back to the feet is irritated or compressed.

Boxing's Olympic Future Under Fresh Scrutiny
The International Olympic Committee's patience with boxing's troubled governing body looks to be wearing thin following "disturbing developments" at the IBA's extraordinary congress last weekend. An IOC spokesperson told AFP on Thursday the Olympic rulers were "extremely concerned" with the lack of a new election for the IBA presidency, and the suspension in the run-up to the congress in Yerevan of the Ukrainian boxing federation. In consequence the IOC's executive board "will have to fully review the situation" at its next meeting in December, the spokesperson said.
