MELBOURNE : Williams driver Alex Albon was praised as the "tyre whisperer" by his team after lasting 56 laps on the same set of hard compound rubbers to finish 10th at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday after starting at the back of the grid.

An Se-young clinched victory at the Korea Open Badminton Championships on Sunday, becoming the first home player to win the women's singles at the event in seven years. The 20-year-old defeated Thailand's unseeded Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-17, 21-18 in a tightly fought final in Suncheon.

Top Indian shuttlers P V Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth progressed to the semifinals of the Korea Open Super 500 badminton tournament with contrasting wins on Friday. Out of fuel and out of luck, Alex Albon booted to back of Melbourne grid
Alex Albon was dropped to the back of the grid for the Australian Grand Prix because there was not enough fuel in his Williams to provide a test sample after Saturday qualifying, officials said. The F1 website reported that Albon "stopped out on track after dropping out of Q1" and that Williams "were later unable to provide the required 1.0-litre fuel sample to the FIA." Albon finished with the 16th best time in the first qualifying run, too slow to progress to the last two sessions.

Chahat Arora clinched a gold medal in the women's 50m breaststroke event at the Thailand Age Group Championship. The Chandigarh swimmer, who won two gold medals at the nationals last year, won the yellow metal after equalling her own previous best Indian time of 33.62 seconds in Samut Prakan, Thailand. The 24-year-old had won two gold medals in the Uzbekistan Open Swimming Championships in April last year.
