ZHANGJIAKOU, China : First-time Olympian Ryan Regez of Switzerland took gold in the men's ski cross final on Friday at the Beijing Games, while fellow Swiss skier Alex Fiva claimed silver.
Ryan Regez has won a brilliant gold medal in the freestyle skiing men's ski cross final, beating compatriot Alex Fiva to the line as Swiss athletes took the top two spots on the podium.
Ryan Regez won gold in the ski cross big final, whilst compatriot Alex Fiva finished second, and Sergey Ridzik claimed bronze medal. After finishing 31st in the qualifying round and 2.9 seconds off the pace, Team GB’s Ollie Davies was placed in a difficult seed for the 1/8 finals. Davies struggled to catch-up after an early mistake forced him towards the back of the pack, which ultimately saw him face elimination.
Eileen Gu has made history aged just 18, becoming the first freestyle skier to win three medals at one Olympic Games. It started with big air gold as mammoth runs of 93.75 and 94.50 helped the American-born Chinese star beat France’s Tess Ledeux by 0.75 points. Ad/> Then it was slopestyle silver, with Gu’s 86.23 in her final run just 0.33 points behind Swiss gold medallist Mathilde Gremaud.
