DENVER — Jack Johnson is having the spring of his life — on and off the ice.
We needed overtime in Game 1 but what a series opener it was between the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning. Andre Burakovsky gave the home side a 4-3 win and a 1-0 series lead Wednesday night. Now we wait to see if Jon Cooper’s charges can rebound and even the series up before it heads to Tampa Bay for Game 3.
On Saturday night, the puck will drop on Game 2 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Final between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche enter Game 2 with a 1-0 series lead thanks to a 4-3 OT game-winner Andre Burakovsky.
On more than one occasion this postseason the Tampa Bay Lightning have looked like a team that has been vulnerable. A team that is in the middle of a third consecutive lengthy postseason run and could be on the verge of maybe running out of gas. But they have always found a way to overcome it and continue their dynastic run toward a third consecutive championship.

The Stanley Cup Final is always clear-your-calendar-viewing, but this matchup is especially juicy in terms of the star power and imprint on the league landscape. The Tampa Bay Lightning, a prospective dynasty, tries to collect its third straight Cup, a feat which had seemed impossible in the 21st century. At the same time, the Colorado Avalanche have the hallmarks of a franchise that could be embarking on its own dynastic run. With a surfeit of skill sharing the ice, the inclination might be to lean into overs. Instead, I am loving the unders and the home team.
DENVER — Even the best in the world can have his bad moments.
