The IPL 2022 will begin on March 26 but Rajasthan will play their first match on March 29 against the SunRisers Hyderabad. Reacting on joining the Royals, the 38-year-old said in an official release stated, "It is certainly a new thing for me to get into coaching and pass on my experience to the younger players. I have played this role before with Mumbai, and now I'm delighted to be working with Rajasthan Royals."

Despite failing to reach triple figures so far in the series, Smith scripted a huge record with his knock of 59 in the first innings. Smith, who took his tally of runs to 7,993, surpassed former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, who had scored 7,913 runs after 150 Test innings.
