Australia have picked three pacemen for the first T20 international against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, hoping their World Cup-winning formula will work in their favour again.

Australia's big guns returned to the side as they announced the playing XI for the opening Twenty20 International (T20I) against Sri Lanka at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday. Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith had all missed the recent T20I matches at home to Sri Lanka in February and the one-off T20I against Pakistan in Lahore in April but return to the playing XI for the first T20I. Speaking about the team composition, Australia's limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch said that there was a temptation to play two spinners but with rain around in the last couple of days, they decided to go in with three fast bowlers.

Richardson was selected ahead of namesake Jhye Richardson to replace rested Pat Cummins and join Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood in the attack in Colombo. Captain Aaron Finch said selectors had considered picking second spinner Mitchell Swepson to partner Ashton Agar but went with pace after seeing the pitch.

LONDON: Joe Root underlined the talent that had long seemed obvious from early in his career when he became just the second England batsman to score 10,000 Test runs during a match-winning hundred against New Zealand at Lord's on Sunday (Jun 5).

Joe Root became the latest entrant to the 10,000-run club in Test cricket, achieving the rare feat on Day 4 of the opening Test against New Zealand on Sunday. Root became only the second Englishman to reach the milestone after Alastair Cook and the 14th overall. He reached the 10,000-run mark in his 218th innings, becoming the fastest England batter to do so. Cook had reached the landmark in his 229th innings. Incidentally, Root is also the joint-youngest to reach the mark along with Cook, both of whom reached the milestone at the age of 31y 157d.
