LAHORE, Pakistan : Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi will miss the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates and the home series against England as he continues to recover from a knee injury, the country's cricket board said on Saturday.
Young uncapped left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka was handed a maiden call-up as five-time champions Sri Lanka on Saturday announced an 18-member team for the Asia Cup, beginning in Dubai next week. Besides the the 21-year-old Madushanka, the squad, led by regular skipper Dasun Shanaka, also includes Ashen Bandara, who last represented Sri Lanka in July 2021 in a T20I against India. Charith Asalanka will be the vice-captain of the team, which will begin its Asia Cup campaign against Afghanistan in the tournament opener at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on August 27.
Asia Cup and the following Twenty20 international series against England with a knee injury, doctors said Saturday. The injury to the 22-year-old is a major blow to Pakistan's chances in the six-nation Asia Cup starting in the United Arab Emirates from August 27. Shaheen's injury has already forced him to miss the second Test in Sri Lanka last month.

In a huge blow to Pakistan, star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup with injury. Afridi has been advised 4-6 weeks rest by the Pakistan Cricket Board's medical advisory committee, the board said in a statement on Saturday. Shaheen Afridi will also miss Pakistan's home series against England. "Shaheen Shah Afridi has been advised 4-6 weeks rest by the PCB Medical Advisory Committee and independent specialists following latest scans and reports. This means Shaheen has been ruled out of the ACC T20 Asia Cup and home series against England," the Pakistan board said in its statement.
The much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup is just around the corner. The arch-rivals will square off on August 28 in Dubai in a group-stage clash. Having nerves heading into the contest is quite normal for players but India skipper Rohit Sharma is trying to ensure to create a calm atmosphere within the group. Ahead of the game, Rohit said that the contest is definitely a high-pressure game but at the end of the day, Pakistan are "just another opposition".
ODI of the England tour. According to BCCI sources, veteran India woman cricketer Jhulan Goswami is set to play her farewell match against England at Lord's. The third and final ODI on 24th September could be her last international appearance.
