With the emergence of South Africa's T20 League, Mumbai Indians based franchise MI Cape Town is all set to put their best foot forward in the inaugural edition. Recently, Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene and former India pacer Zaheer Khan were appointed as Global Head of Performance and Global Head of Cricket Development, respectively, due to the expansion of the franchise to the SA20 league and the UAE T20 league. cricket squad touched down in Karachi on Thursday on their first tour of Pakistan in 17 years -- a lengthy absence brought about by security fears. England last played in Pakistan in 2005 and were due to visit last year until pulling out at short notice after New Zealand also cancelled a tour citing safety concerns. The move infuriated the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), desperate to rehabilitate its security reputation, who called it "disrespectful".
After their group stage exit from the Asia Cup, the Bangladesh cricket team management did a shake-up while naming their squad for the T20 World Cup. It axed former captain Mahmudullah Riyad and recalled batsman Najmul Hossain for next month's marquee tournament in Australia. The Asia Cup campaign highlighted the team's 20-over woes, with Bangladesh turfed out in the group stage after losing to Afghanistan and eventual winners Sri Lanka.
The Pakistan cricket team enjoyed a great run in the Asia Cup until they were defeated in the final by Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka first raised themselves from the dungeons to reach 170 for 6 from a hopeless 58 for 5 because of Bhanuka Rajapaksa's 45-ball-71, easily one of the best knocks under pressure in T20s in recent times. If that wasn't enough, Pakistan, who were cruising along at 93 for 2, were finally bowled out Pakistan for 147. In the final, world No. 1 T20I batter Rizwan (55 off 49 balls) as played the sheet anchor's role hitting the odd boundaries while Pakistan captain and world No. 2 T20I batter Babar Azam was out for 5.
India put up a clinical performance to clinch the SAFF U-17 Championship title, defeating a 10-man Nepal 4-0 in the Final on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Racecourse International Stadium, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. With this win, India retains the title. Boby Singh, Korou Singh, captain Vanlalpeka Guite, and Aman scored a goal each, to shape a resounding victory in India's favour. In the group league, Nepal defeated India 3-1. However, in the final, India looked a side eager to take complete charge of the proceedings right from the word go. They got off the blocks early in the match, looking to find the gaps in the Nepal defence, and managed to get the lead in the 18th minute through Boby, who headed it into the goal at the far post, after a good piece of play between Ricky Meetei and Vanlalpeka Guite, as the latter sailed a cross towards the eventual goalscorer.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Wednesday announced the squad for the upcoming International Cricket Council's (ICC) Men's T20 World Cup, which will take place from October-November this year. The panel confirmed fifteen (15) players who will represent the West Indies for the eighth ICC T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia from October 16 to November 13. The West Indies are the only team to have won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup twice, in Sri Lanka in 2012 and in India in 2016. The West Indies' campaign to win an unprecedented third ICC Men's T20 World Cup title starts on October 17, when they take on Scotland in the first of three Group B fixtures played at the Bellerive Oval, in Hobart, Tasmania to qualify for the Super 12 phase of the tournament.
This month's disappointing Asia Cup campaign highlighted the team's 20-over woes, with Bangladesh turfed out in the group stage after losing to Afghanistan and eventual winners Sri Lanka. Mahmudullah's inclusion was under a cloud after a lacklustre 151 runs across his eight match appearances in 2022. Indian cricketer Sridharan Sriram, appointed last month as the team's T20 consultant, said it was time for the team to think of its future beyond the 36-year-old.
