Playing the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia within one week of the IPL's conclusion is going to be a huge challenge, India head coach Rahul Dravid said on Monday. Virat Kohli slammed his first Test century in more than three years, after Shubman Gill's sparkling 128, as India responded strongly to Australia's stiff first innings total of 480 to draw the fourth and final Test and clinch the Border-Gavaskar series 2-1 here. Just before the post-lunch session on the final day, news trickled in that Kane Williamson's magnificent hundred sealed New Zealand's thrilling two-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Christchurch, paving the way for India's march to their second successive WTC final.

It was a rare sight on Monday as Cheteshwar Pujara was introduced into the bowling attack by India skipper Rohit Sharma. It was the final overs on Day 5 of the fourth Test match in Ahmedabad and the match was clearly headed towards a draw. Pujara bowled a tidy over and ended up conceding just one run which was lauded by the commentators. Pujara had a clean bowling action and former Indian cricket team skipper Sunil Gavaskar remarked on commentary that his bowling style even resembled the Australia great Shane Warne. Ravichandran Ashwin also had a brilliant reaction to his bowling.

Fourth Test Ends In Draw, India Seal Series 2-1

India clinched the four-Test series against Australia 2-1 after the fourth and final Test ended in a draw in Ahmedabad on Monday. Australia were 175 for 2 in 78.1 overs in their second innings when the players from the two teams decided to shake hands. Marnus Labuschagne (63) and Steve Smith (10) were at the crease when the two team agreed on not playing the full quota of the overs for the day.

With no vice-captain being assigned for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the Indian team, Rohit Sharma has been seeking advise from the senior players in the team. Earlier, it was Cheteshwar Pujara who handled the team's captaincy for a brief period while Rohit Sharma was off the ground. On Day 5 against Australia, Virat Kohli acted as a virtual ‘vice-captain', helping Rohit devise a strategy with Axar Patel as India looked to get the better of Australian batters in the morning session of the Ahmedabad Test.
