India's stalwart batter Virat Kohli on Wednesday rose in the latest ICC Men's Player Rankings after he scored his 51st ODI century in a superb display of batting against Pakistan at the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. Kohli gained one place on the latest rankings for ODI batters to move back into fifth spot overall, as per the ICC who released the new ODI rankings today. This brings three Indian batters inside the top five. Quest for ODI runs record can keep Kohli motivated, says Ponting

Ricky Ponting Ends Virat Kohli vs Sachin Tendulkar Debate In ODI Cricket With Unfiltered Verdict

Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting said he has not seen a "better player" than Virat Kohli in ODIs, and backed the Indian batting star to go past legendary Sachin Tendulkar as the highest run-getter in the 50-over format. Kohli made an exceptional unbeaten 100, his 51st in ODIs, to guide India to a six-wicket win over Pakistan in a Champions Trophy match here on Sunday. "I don't think I've ever seen a better 50-over player than Virat Kohli. Now that he's gone past me (in run-maker's list) and only two (batters) ahead of him, I'm sure he would want to give himself the best chance to be remembered as the all-time leading run scorer in the game,” Ponting told ICC Review.

'Terror Threat' Puts Champions Trophy 2025 In Trouble. Report Claims 'Kidnapping Plot'

Pakistan's Intelligence Bureau (IB) has reportedly issued a high alert after uncovering an alleged plot by "active covert groups" to kidnap foreign guests during the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. Except for India, all the other teams are playing their matches in Pakistan and if India fail to reach the final, the summit clash will also be played in the country. However, according to a report by CNN-News18, an alert has been issued against a number of terror outfits "including Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ISIS and other Balochistan-based groups" after warnings regarding alleged abduction plots. The report added that the security forces "have deployed high-level protection teams, including rangers and local police".
