England's Richard Illingworth and Chris Gaffaney of New Zealand will be the on-field umpires in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia in London, the ICC said on Monday. The International Cricket Council has announced the match officials for the marquee clash, which will be played between world cricket's two heavyweights at The Oval from June 7-11.
Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, Moises Henriques and Adam Zampa have become the latest Australia players who are set to feature in the inaugural edition of the United States T20 tournament. Henriques will take up the captaincy role for the Washington Freedom franchise. The 36-year-old has led the Big Bash League franchise the Sixers to back-to-back titles in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He could still be joined by two more BBL teammates as opening batter Josh Philippe and fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis are also being linked to the Washington franchise for the July tournament.
The ICC chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice will be meeting Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi at board's Lahore headquarters to discuss the issues related to their national team's participation in the ODI World Cup in India, starting October 5. The ICC head honchos apart from Sethi will also meet PCB's COO Barrister Salman Naseer and other senior board officials. As of now, Sethi has maintained PCB's stand that if India don't come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, they will also demand that their games are played in Bangladesh.
The BCCI will not support Najam Sethi's proposed hybrid model of hosting the Asia Cup wherein four preliminary round and two super four games will be held in Pakistan with India's matches and the final taking place in a neutral country. It is understood that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Jay Shah, who is also the secretary of the BCCI, during an informal discussion with some of the continental body's members in Ahmedabad has made the Indian board's stand clear. For a tournament to happen at a neutral venue, the all-powerful executive body of the ACC needs to take the final call, and therein lies the problem.
Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni will once again lead his side in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final when the four-time champions take on holders Gujarat Titans in the summit clash. In the ongoing season, Dhoni has once again proved why he is regarded as one of the greatest captains ever. Despite not playing much part with the bat, the former India captain continues to mesmerise fans and experts with his captaincy tactics.
Star India batter Virat Kohli has reached the United Kingdom ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia, which will take place from June 7 onwards. India will be aiming to clinch the ICC World Test Championship as they lock horns with Aussies from June 7 onwards at The Oval. Virat will no doubt be one of India's key players in the quest for the country's first big ICC title since 2013. Virat took to Instagram to share a picture from London on his story. "London Mornings," said the caption of Virat's story.
