Exactly after a gap of 12 months, Pakistan return to the Galle International Stadium to take on Sri Lanka in the first Test of the 2-match series. Babar Azam's men produced a spectacular victory last year at the same venue. The message from the team management would be to repeat the same this time around. In what would be the start of a fresh World Test Championship cycle for both Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the hosts would be eager to make their solid record at the Galle count. Sri Lanka have won 6 of the last 8 Tests they played at this venue. (LIVE Scorecard)
India's most celebrated cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has lauded Yashasvi Jaiswal for his maiden test hundred in the debut match against West Indies. Jaiswal scored his test ton on the Day 2 of the first test on Thursday at Windsor Park Dominica. West Indies managed to score 150 in their first innings.
The PCB will try to get more matches of the Asia Cup to be staged in Pakistan when the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) board meets in Dubai on Sunday. Following the acceptance of the hybrid model by all stakeholders including the PCB and BCCI, the ACC announced last month that four matches will be held in Pakistan and nine in Sri Lanka with the event to held from August 31 to September 17. Hybrid model was proposed as BCCI had clearly conveyed that it won't send its team to Pakistan due to the tense relations between the two countries.
India batter Rinku Singh was over the moon after he received his first national call-up for the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games in China. With the men's senior team set to take part in the World Cup, also later this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named a second-string side to take part in the event. Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the team in the absence of senior players, who will be busy preparing for the upcoming ODI World Cup on home soil.
Former Pakistan cricket captain Misbah-ul-Haq has advocated for his country's team be allowed to compete in the ODI World Cup in India and added that not sending the side for the mega-event would be "depriving people" of the opportunity to see the arch-rivals clash on the biggest stage. "When there can be contacts between the two countries in other sports, why not in cricket. Why link cricket with political relations? It is unfair to deprive people of a chance to see their teams play against each other," said Misbah, the 49-year-old former Pakistan captain and coach at a function here on Friday.
