Indian cricket team's Asia Cup 2023 squad is most likely to be announced on Monday. Several reports have claimed that the BCCI selectors will meet Team India captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid to decide on the final squad for the Asia Cup, which begins on August 30. India's first match is against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 in Sri Lanka. The Asia Cup squad holds extra importance as it will more or less give an idea about what the squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 will look like.

The ICC World Cup 2023 schedule has already seen a lot of changes in the recent past but it seems like the fixture list can get altered once again. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has informed the Board For Cricket Control in India (BCCI) that they may find it difficult to host World Cup matches on consecutive days. The Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad will host the match between New Zealand and Netherlands on October 9 and on the very next day, Sri Lanka will face Pakistan at the same venue.

The Indian selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, is likely to go for a 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup in order to check out all possible options ahead of the ODI World Cup, starting October 5. It is also learnt that BCCI is bucking the convention for the first time and head coach Rahul Dravid will also be present in his official capacity during the meeting scheduled in the national capital on Monday morning. It can be confirmed that neither Ravi Shastri nor Anil Kumble were part of selection meetings during their tenure as national coach.

Former Sri Lankan pace ace Lasith Malinga is set to return to five-time champions Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024, this time as their fast bowling coach replacing Shane Bond, according to a report on Saturday. The Kiwi veteran had held that position for the past nine seasons. However an IPL source confirmed to PTI that Bond's contract with Mumbai is still under review. "MI's contract with Bond is still not over as yet," the source said. Earlier, ESPNCricinfo has reported that it's also not clear whether Bond would continue as the head coach of MI Emirates in the ILT20 where they finished third this year. Malinga had a fruitful career with Mumbai Indians winning five titles overall -- four in IPL (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019) and the Champions League T20 in 2011.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday invited Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary and President of ACC, to attend the opening match of the Asia Cup between Pakistan and Nepal on August 30 at Multan. The PCB said besides Shah it has also invited heads of other boards who are part of the Asian Cricket Council for the opening match. A well-informed source in the PCB said the invitation was sent to Shah more out of hope than any realistic expectation of him visiting Pakistan.
