Gautam Gambhir Takes Charge As India Hit The Ground In Sri Lanka Ahead Of White-Ball Series

The new head coach Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday took charge of the Indian men's cricket team as the visitors hit the ground running in their first practice session in Pallekele, ahead of three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Gambhir, who replaced the legendary Rahul Dravid at the helm, led the team to the ground and oversaw the training session which included fielding drills and sessions with the players. The training session was mostly around running, catching and one-on-one interactions. The new T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was also involved in an interaction with the players.

Pakistan Cricket Board To Step Up Focus On National A, Junior Team Programs For Players' Exposure

Following the footsteps of other leading cricket nations, the Pakistan Cricket Board has also begun stressing about providing exposure to its backup players through its national A and junior team programs. The PCB announced on Tuesday that the Pakistan Shaheens would play a return series of four-day and one-day matches against Bangladesh A, besides hosting Sri Lanka A this year. "The idea is to revive pathway cricket projects so that our backup talent is constantly getting exposure of international cricket against other sides besides domestic cricket," a board official said.

Afghanistan Assured Its Participation In 2025 Champions Trophy: PCB Sources

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has got a big boost in its bid to successfully host the ICC Champions Trophy early next year after Afghanistan has assured its participation in the tournament. Afghanistan Cricket Board president Mirwais Ashraf and CEO Naseeb Khan, who were in Colombo to attend the ICC Annual Board Meeting met with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and gave him the assurance. "They told the chairman that Afghanistan is looking forward to sending its team to Pakistan since they are participating in the Champions Trophy for the first time," a PCB said.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir, speaking to media on Monday, confirmed the names of two assistant coaches that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved. Though the complete list of coaches will be confirmed only after the Sri Lanka tour, Gambhir is happy to see the board agreeing to most of his demands as the head coach of the Indian team. During the media briefing, Gambhir revealed that his former Kolkata Knight Riders mates, Ryan Ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar have joined him as assistant coaches.

Team India is all set to face Sri Lanka in a white-ball series, which will kick start from July 27. The series consists of three T20Is, followed as many ODIs, starting from August 2. In the T20Is, Team India will be led by batter Suryakumar Yadav, who has been appointed as the captain after the retirement of Rohit Sharma from the shortest format. This came as a surprise for many fans as all-rounder Hardik Pandya was expected to don the leader's cap. However on Monday, India's T20I squad left for Sri Lanka and heartfelt scenes were captured from the airport. At the airport, Hardik was seen a joyful mood as he hugged India's assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
