The Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics was unique and historic, which saw unprecedented events take place. Breaking away from the traditional format, it was held outside a stadium and contingents took to boats and ships on the Seine River for the Parade of the Nations. However, the Indian Olympic Association IOA President and Olympian PT Usha, however, believes that the event did not focus enough on the athletes. "In the opening ceremony, the organisers should have focused more on athletes. This is an athlete's event, they should give more importance to players as the attention was on them for only a few seconds, otherwise, everything was good," PT Usha told IANS on Saturday.
The International Olympic Committee has apologized after South Korea's delegation of athletes at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony on Friday was introduced as from North Korea.
Excited spectators plodded through puddles Saturday to reach the most spectacular venue of the Paris 2024 Olympics, with beach volleyball kicking off in the shadow of a just-visible Eiffel Tower.
The International Olympic Committee apologised Saturday for a gaffe during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics in which South Korean athletes were incorrectly introduced as North Korean. As the South Korean delegation sailed down the Seine river in the French capital, they were introduced with the official name for North Korea: "Republique populaire democratique de Coree" in French, then "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" in English. "We deeply apologise for the mistake that occurred when introducing the South Korean team during the broadcast of the opening ceremony," the IOC said in a post on its official Korean-language X account.

Bolstered by their best-ever show in the ranking rounds, Indian archers will look to end a 36-year-long wait for an Olympic medal with yet another good show in the medal rounds that will get underway with the women's finals on Sunday. Indian archery fraternity can hope for multiple medals from the historic Les Invalides arena following Dhiraj Bommadevara (seeded fourth) and Ankita Bhakat's (11th) exploits in the qualifiers. For the first time after 12 years, India have a full six-member contingent as they vie for medals in all the five categories -- mixed team, men's and women's team, and individual events.
