BENGALURU :India will kick off their 2025 home season with a two-match test series against the West Indies in October before taking on South Africa across all three formats of the game, the country's cricket board announced on Wednesday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 2025 home season fixtures for the Indian men's team, which will see West Indies and South Africa touring India for some exciting cricket action, kickstarting from October 2 onwards. Guwahati will also get to host its first-ever Test match. The home season will kickstart on October 2 with the first Test of the two-match series against West Indies at Ahmedabad. The second Test will take place in Kolkata on October 10. This will be followed by an all-format series against South Africa, kickstarting with the first Test at New Delhi from November 14 onwards.
Vandana Katariya, the most-capped Indian woman hockey player, brought curtains on her illustrious 15-year international career on Tuesday, saying the decision taken at her "zenith" was both "bittersweet and empowering". The 32-year-old veteran striker represented India in 320 international games, scoring 158 goals. She was also a part of the Indian team that cherished the historic fourth-place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. "Today, with a heavy yet grateful heart, I announce my retirement from international hockey -- a decision that feels both bittersweet and empowering," Katariya wrote in an Instagram post.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), yesterday, dismissed reports suggesting that Super Eagles’ handler, Eric Chelle, is contemplating quitting his job. The report also said that the coach’s impending exit has thrown the NFF into confusion, leading the federation to convene an emergency meeting over the issue.
LUCKNOW, India: Wicketkeeper-batsman Prabhsimran Singh scored an explosive 69 off 34 balls as Punjab Kings cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday for their second win this IPL. Punjab chased down the target of 172 set by Lucknow with nearly four overs to spare, and captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 52 off 30 balls. Playing their first home game of the season, Lucknow Super Giants started poorly, losing in-form opener Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck in the first over of the match to Arshdeep Singh. Marsh’s opening partner Aiden Markram hit Arshdeep for three boundaries in his next over but fell for 28 off 18 soon after to New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson, who was playing his first match for the Kings. Captain Rishabh Pant’s stint at the crease was short-lived getting out for just two runs from five balls, leaving Lucknow reeling at 35-3 just prior to the end of the powerplay. Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni steadied the innings with a 54-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but Pooran eventually fell to spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the 12th over after an entertaining 44 off 30 balls. The attacking David Miller who came in next did not last long either, falling to fellow South African Marco Jansen for 19 off 18 deliveries. Badoni (41) and Abdul Samad (27), both of whom were dismissed by Arshdeep in the last over of the match, provided some late momentum to Lucknow, propelling them to a total of 171-7. In response, Punjab lost opener Priyansh Arya cheaply for eight runs off nine balls to spinner Digvesh Rathi in the third over. South Africa's white-ball coach Rob Walter has resigned from the role, Cricket South Africa announced on Tuesday. CSA said that Walter's resignation for "personal reasons" will come into effect on April 30. Walter was barely two years into a four-year contract which was due to end with the Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2027. Walter, 49, took South Africa to the final of the T20 World Cup in Barbados in 2024, the country's first global final since South Africa won the first Champions Trophy in 1998. He was also in charge when they reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India and the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Explosive young opening batsman Sam Konstas was on Tuesday awarded his first central contract by Cricket Australia for the 2025-26 season, which includes the World Test Championship final and the Ashes against England. The 19-year-old Konstas made headlines against India in the Melbourne Boxing Day Test when he took on fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah to make a memorable debut 60 off 65 balls, with six fours and two sixes.
