Quinton de Kock hit his second successive century at the Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday as South Africa made 311-7 in their group game against sloppy five-time champions Australia who dropped five catches. The 30-year-old De Kock reached his 19th ODI hundred off 90 balls with eight fours and five sixes having also made a century in South Africa's opening win over Sri Lanka. De Kock, who will retire from international cricket at the end of the tournament, was batting in familiar surroundings at the Ekana Stadium where he plays in the IPL for the Lucknow Super Giants.

The Australian camp was not happy with the third umpire's decision to rule Marcus Stoinis out in the 134-run defeat to South Africa in the World Cup, with batter Marnus Labuschagne and coach Andrew McDonald saying they will seek clarity from the ICC. Stoinis was adjudged out caught behind in the 18th over off a Kagiso Rabada delivery after South Africa reviewed the decision. The Ultra edge showed a spike, as the ball touched Stoinis' bottom hand. But what made things confusing was that Stoinis' top hand left the bat and whether the top and bottom hand were both connected to the bat was debatable.

Steve Smith was left completely dumbstruck after a DRS review resulted in a rather unusual LBW dismissal during the Cricket World Cup 2023 match between Australia and South Africa in Lucknow on Thursday. A delivery from Kagiso Rabada struck Smith on the pads as he tried to shuffle across the stumps and to the naked eye, it looked like the ball was missing the leg stump. However, South Africa went for the review and the replay showed that the ball was actually hitting the stumps. There was some confusion about the decision as the ball tracker showed the end result directly and not the journey of the ball resulting in Smith being quite unhappy with the whole process. Even the on-field umpire Joel Wilson looked surprised at the third umpire overturning his not-out decision.
