India batter Rinku Singh made a fan's day after signing a jersey for him at the Bengaluru airport. India crushed Australia 4-1 in a five-match T20I series, with Rinku playing a big part in it. The batter scored 105 runs in four innings at an average of 52.5 and a strike rate of 175. His performances have been rewarded with a place in India's T20I and ODI squads for the forthcoming tour of South Africa, starting December 10. As the team departed from Bengaluru, a fan requested Rinku to sign a jersey for him.
The Sri Lanka Cricket on Monday filed a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against the country's former sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe over the alleged misuse of funds released by the SLC to develop other disciplines. The Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe had removed Ranasinghe from the post on November 27. “The decision to file this complaint stems from the concern that Roshan Ranasinghe MP has not appropriately disclosed the utilization of funds allocated by SLC for the intended purposes,” the Lankan board said in a press release. “This comes in the wake of a discernible disparity between the information disclosed to the media by Ranasinghe MP and the response received by SLC under a Right to Information (RTI) application, outlining the specifics of the expenditures made,” the release added.
Two-time champions India will look to make a winning start against Asian rivals Korea in their pursuit of another podium finish in the FIH men's Junior World Cup hockey tournament starting here on Tuesday. India have won the tournament twice, in 2001 in Hobart and 2016 in Lucknow, besides finishing runners-up once in Milton Keyes, England in 1997. In the last edition of the event in Bhubaneswar two years back, the Indians finished fourth and they would be hoping to clinch their fourth podium at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil here.
When Ravi Bishnoi was named in India's T20I squad for the away series against South Africa, it, perhaps, was the clearest indication about his place in the think tank's long-term plans with the next year's T20 World Cup in mind. With only six T20Is remaining for India ahead of the showpiece, it can be assumed that the 23-year-old leg-spinner has moved ahead of veteran Yuzvendra Chahal in the pecking order, for now at least. Chahal is not a part of India's T20I side to face the Proteas. Chahal is 33 and Bishnoi is 23, but the latter getting as much or more game time in T20Is is not just about a natural generational transition. Chahal has played nine T20Is this year, grabbing as many wickets whereas Bishnoi appeared in 11 matches and picked up 18 wickets. The difference is there for everyone to see.
Usman Khawaja has leapt to the defence of fellow Australian batsman David Warner, saying he has “paid his dues” over the 2018 ball-tampering scandal.
