Former England skipper Jos Buttler and South Africa quick Gerald Coetzee will join the Gujarat Titans squad on Wednesday ahead of the resumption of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on May 17. According to ESPNcricinfo, Buttler and Coetzee were the only overseas GT players who left India after the BCCI suspended the cash-rich league last Thursday due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
Pat Cummins and Travis Head, the Australian pair who are set to feature in next month's World Test Championship final, are expected to rejoin the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 resumption on May 17, according to ESPNcricinfo. Last week, the 18th edition of the cash-rich league was suspended due to India's cross-border tensions with Pakistan. The future of the remainder of the tournament was clouded in uncertainty. On Monday, the BCCI cleared the doubts by confirming that IPL would resume on Saturday in Bengaluru.
CAPE TOWN :South Africa have included Kagiso Rabada in their squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord's from June 11-15 following the fast bowler's return from a suspension having tested positive for a banned substance.
If there was one player who was considered worthy of bettering Sachin Tendulkar's record of 100 international hundreds, it was Virat Kohli. When Tendulkar was asked in an award ceremony after hitting his 100th century on who could break his record, he took two names: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Within a week, both Rohit and Virat retired from the Test format. Kohli, who quit the Test arena on Monday, is still 18 hundreds away from equalling the incredible milestone and now has just one format to play, maybe for a maximum of two years. In an age when the relevance of the 50-over format is a continuous debate, hitting 19 hundreds in ODIs is a humongous task. There is a possibility of Kohli featuring in the ODI World Cup to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027.
Pace bowlers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood and allrounder Cameron Green have been recalled from injury and young batter Sam Konstas has been retained in Australia’s squad for the World Test Championship final against South Africa next month. Australia is the defending WTC champion and finished the league stage with an away win over Sri Lanka after a home series victory against India. “Those series capped a consistent performance across the two-year cycle and now presents us with the incredibly exciting opportunity to defend the World Test Championship,” Australia’s chief selector George Bailey said in a statement Tuesday.
Australia, named their squad to face South Africa in the WTC finals next month at Lord's, as per a release from Cricket Australia. Cameron Green's return to the Test squad after back surgery has been confirmed, with spinner Matt Kuhnemann also included, as Australia revealed their squad for their WTC defence and subsequent Caribbean tour on Tuesday. Sheffield Shield player of the final, Brendan Doggett, has been named a travelling reserve for the 15-player squad, which otherwise features no major surprises from outside the group that beat Sri Lanka 2-0 and India 3-1 last summer.
BENGALURU :Cricket Australia said on Tuesday it is working with the government as well as the Indian board on security arrangements with several players set to make a decision on whether to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) when it resumes this week.
