South African former Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has been released on parole, nearly 11 years after murdering his girlfriend in a crime that shocked a nation long inured to violence against women.
PRETORIA, South Africa — South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has been released from prison on parole and is now at home, South Africa's Department of Corrections said Friday.
India didn't have "extra fire" in the lost opening Test against South Africa but a "mental shift" turned things around, said KL Rahul after the visitors won the second game to level the two-match rubber. India had lost the opening Test by an innings and 32 runs in Centurion but the team regrouped to secure a seven-wicket win against South Africa within two days to record a memorable draw here on Thursday.
Jasprit Bumrah breathed fire on Thursday during the second and final Test match against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town. The right-arm pacer returned figures of 6 for 61 in 13.5 overs, helping India bundle out the Proteas for 176 in their second innings. India went on to win the game by 7 wickets. Bumrah's heroic show helped him surpass Australia's spin great Shane Warne and become the visiting bowler with the second-highest number of wickets in Test matches in Cape Town.
The early conclusion of the Test series between India and South Africa leaves the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee and the team management with some spare time to finalise the squad for the T20I series against Afghanistan. With the first match of the 3-T20I assignment set to begin on January 11, the selection committee are likely to meet on Friday and finalise the roster. For the first time in over a year, the veteran duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma could return to the shortest format, having reportedly made themselves available for selection.
During the post-match presentation of the second India vs South Africa Test at Newlands in Cape Town, Jasprit Bumrah showed his humility. The ace pacer was working as a translator for Mohammed Siraj when the latter credit Bumrah for helping him during bowling. While translating it to English, Bumrah rather credited the experience of the duo and the team management. The humble act from Bumrah didn't go unnoticed as the fans widely shared the video of the interaction on social media.
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma was in an attacking mood after the second Test against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town. With the Test ending in less than five sessions, making it the shortest match in the format ever (in terms of number of balls bowled), there have been question marks on the quality of the pitch. On the first day of the match 23 wickets fell. Both India and South Africa batters found the going tough. They gave better account of themselves in the second innings, yet a two-day Test match was beyond explanation.
