The hunt for the Indian men's cricket team's new head coach has intensified with several names being linked with the job over the past few weeks. The likes of Stephen Fleming, Ricky Ponting, Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman, etc. have all been talked about as Rahul Dravid's replacement, with the India legend's contract ending after the T20 World Cup 2024. However, it has been reported that current Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming is on the top of the BCCI's wishlist. While Fleming isn't keen on signing a long-term contract, the board is reportedly looking to use MS Dhoni as the man to persuade Fleming to do so.
With the T20 World Cup on the brink of commencement, Pakistan are eying to secure the services of West Indies icon Viv Richards as team mentor for the marquee event. The World Cup is ten days away from beginning in the USA and the West Indies. The event will be historic as 20 teams will participate in the tournament for the first time since its inception. Ahead of the tournament, Pakistan are looking to rope in Richards as the team mentor according to Geo News sources.
Former South African opener Gary Kirsten joined the Pakistan team as their new head coach in Leeds ahead of the crucial four-match T20 series in England.
Things have changed, changed quite significantly.
Pakistan's newly appointed head coach, Gary Kirsten joined the 'Men in Green' in Leeds ahead of their upcoming four-match T20I series against England. Team manager Wahab Riaz, captain Babar Azam and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood welcomed the new head coach. Kirsten was also presented with a team jersey after he linked up with the team. Kirsten joined the team after his stint with the Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Gujarat Titans ended. GT ended the campaign in the eighth spot with 12 points and a net run rate of -1.063. The former South Africa cricketer was announced as Pakistan's limited-over head coach last month. During his playing days which lasted from 1993 to 2004, Kirsten made 101 Test and 185 ODI appearances for the Proteas. He amassed 14,087 runs and 34 centuries across both formats.
West Indies opener Brandon King will lead the Caribbean squad in their upcoming T20I series against South Africa, as their full-time skipper Rovman Powell will take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs with the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Powell is one of many players who will be busy playing in IPL 2024 or rested before taking part in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. For example, Andre Russell (Kolkata Knight Riders), Shimron Hetmyer (Rajasthan Royals), Alzarri Joseph (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Sherfane Rutherford (KKR) will stay in India for the T20 tournament.
