Team India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph saw Rohit Sharma produce a remarkable turnaround in the final 5 overs of the match. Up against South Africa, who needed 30 runs to win from 30 balls, India didn't let their shoulders drop, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya producing a remarkable spell of death bowling. It was David Miller's catch by Suryakumar Yadav, however, that proved to be the true turning point. The T20 World Cup 2024 title win was extremely special for the Indian cricket team that was reeling from the effects of losing in the World Test Championship (WTC) final and missing out on the ODI World Cup 2023 title after losing to Australia in the summit clash. A billion hopes were pinned on the Rohit Sharma-led side and this time, they did not disappoint as they pulled off a thrilling win over South Africa to win the T20 World Cup title after 17 years. However, the final match was full of ups and downs, where Team India eventually emerged victorious. Opting to bat first, India had a horrendous start to the innings as they lost three quick wickets with only 34 runs on the board. Later, Virat Kohli and Axar Patel stitched an important 62-run partnership and helped Team India reach a defendable total.

Suryakumar Yadav's catch in the final over of the T20 World Cup final will go down the annals of Indian cricketing history as one of the seminal moments of the triumphant journey. During an interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the team's triumphant return home, Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) revealed what had helped him keep calm in that situation. “At that moment I did not think that I would catch it, I was thinking I'd push the ball in and save the boundary because the wind was also against me. Once I had the ball in my hand I thought I'd throw it the other side but Rohit bhai was too far at that time so I threw it in the air and caught it," he said. “We have practised a lot for such situations as I think that I already do batting but where else can I contribute to the team,” said Yadav to the Hon'ble Prime Minister.
