Former Indian cricket team batter Sanjay Manjrekar believes that all-rounder Axar Patel was 'underutilised' in the first two T20I encounters against South Africa. Following India's loss in the second game of the four-match series on Sunday, Manjrekar said that although India are playing Axar as the third spinner with Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi, the team management has failed to use him properly. While the track did provide some help to the spinners, Axar bowled just one over in the match. Manjrekar was not pleased with the decision and called it an "obvious mistake" by captain Suryakumar Yadav.
England great James Anderson has shown interest in taking part in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 by signing up for the aution that is set to take place on November 23 and 24. The former England fast bowler, who retired from international cricket this summer and took up a coaching role, has registered for the auction at a base price of Rs 1.25 crore. While speaking about the pacer, South Africa great AB de Villiers drew a similarity between him and former India player MS Dhoni, who continues to play in IPL for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has described the three-year gap from international cricket as "tough," but credited the intense domestic grind and the role clarity provided by new head coach Gautam Gambhir for helping him to regain his lost form. The 33-year-old spinner recorded his career-best figures of 5 for 17 in Sunday's second T20I against South Africa, though his efforts could not prevent India from losing by three wickets. Reflecting on his return to the national side, Chakaravarthy said that Gambhir's guidance had been pivotal.
Varun Chakaravarthy, after being dropped from the Indian cricket team, went back to the basics and made significant changes to his bowling technique. Reflecting on his learnings from his first stint with the team, Chakaravarthy shared the details of his journey. "I had to go to the drawing board and check out all my videos," Chakaravarthy said. "I figured out that I was bowling side spin, and it was not working out in the higher levels. So, I had to change everything about my bowling, and it took me two years and I started bowling in the local leagues and IPL also. So, it worked there, and I have started bowling it on the international stage and it's working out for me," he said exclusively on JioCinema after India's three-wicket loss to South Africa in the second T20I.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir on Monday shared insights on the selection of Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He said pacer Rana has done enough bowling to come out fresh against the Aussies. Gambhir praised Reddy, highlighting his potential to contribute to the team if given the opportunity. Gambhir also hinted at moving forward from certain players in the India setup. Shardul Thakur is one veteran fast bowling allrounder who was not picked for the Border Gavaskar Trophy and many experts were surprised. However, in Gautam Gambhir's statement there was no direct mention of Thakur.
