Former captain Kapil Dev feels it is up to stalwart Virat Kohli how fast he can bounce back from his lean patch of form as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) and World Test Championship (WTC) continues to be on line for India. In Test cricket, there have been glimpses of Virat showcasing his picture-perfect technique but eventually being overshadowed by the weight of his failures.
South Africa moved to the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, damaging the Sanath Jayasuriya-coached side's aspirations for qualifying for the WTC final with a 109-run victory over Sri Lanka at St George's Park on Monday. The win secured a dominant 2-0 series victory for the Proteas, who dethroned WTC table toppers Australia to claim the top spot. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are now fourth in the running for a spot in the final and will be playing Australia in a two-game Test series in January. Sri Lanka entered this match with a point to prove, especially after a crushing 233-run defeat in the first Test in Durban, where they were bowled out for a record low of 42 in the first innings. After winning the toss, South Africa opted to bat first but found themselves in early trouble before captain Temba Bavuma and Ryan Rickelton steadied the ship with a vital 133-run partnership.

Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Mendis kept Sri Lanka's hopes alive on the fourth day of the second Test against South Africa at St George's Park on Sunday. Captain De Silva and Mendis, Sri Lanka's last recognised batsmen, shared an unbeaten partnership of 83 as Sri Lanka, set 348 to win, reached 205 for five at the close. South Africa seemed on target for an early win to complete a 2-0 series clean sweep when Sri Lanka slumped to 122 for five, with fast bowler Dane Paterson and left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj taking two wickets each. But De Silva and Mendis, who both finished on 39 not out, not only blunted the South African bowling attack but kept the score moving at better than four runs an over.
