Gujarat Titans (GT) seal a spot in the final of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) here at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday, star batter David Miller said continued backing from the team has played a big role in improving his game in this season. Miller was the chief architect of GT's seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 1. Miller played an unbeaten knock of 68 from 38 balls, supported by skipper Hardik's 40 off 27 balls, which took debutants Gujarat through to the final . "I think opportunity, firstly," said Miller at the post-match presentation, answering a question on what has changed for him. "I've been given a role, I felt extremely backed from the outset...I'm enjoying my role. I've been playing for many years now and understanding my game a lot better. In high-pressure situations, you tend to go away from your game plan, but I feel like I'm trying to keep everything together close to the game plan.
Hardik Pandya on Tuesday hailed "match-winner" David Miller after the South African batsman led newcomers Gujarat Titans in to the IPL final with a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals. Chasing 189 for victory in the first qualifier, Gujarat rode an unbeaten 106-run fourth-wicket stand between Pandya (40) and Miller (68) to achieve the target with three balls to spare in Kolkata. With 16 needed off the final over, the left-handed Miller smashed each of Prasidh Krishna's first three balls for six to bring the house down at a full capacity Eden Gardens in the first qualifier. Known as 'Killer' Miller for his big hitting, the left-hand batsman smashed three fours and five sixes in his 38-ball knock. "A lot of people counted David Miller out but for us he was always a match-winner from the time we brought him in the auction," Pandya said of the attacking batsman who has been key to Gujarat's success in their debut season.
AB de Villiers is one cricketer who enjoys a great fan following in cricket and whenever someone talks about Royal Challengers Bangalore, the former Proteas batter always comes to mind. Now, the former South Africa captain has revealed that he would definitely be around the cash-rich league next year as he would love to return to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, de Villiers also said that right now he is not sure in what capacity he would join the tournament.
David Miller aced the finisher's role yet again as the South African helped Gujarat Titans defeat Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Qualifier 1 on Tuesday. His unbeaten 68 off 38 balls was crucial in GT winning by seven wickets and becoming the first team to enter the final. Miller's innings included three fours and five sixes. Out of those five, three sixes were hit in the 20th over off RR pacer Prasidh Krishna. With GT needing 16 runs off the last six balls, Miller hit three consecutive sixes to take his team home.
Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya said David Miller's quality was never in doubt after the South African powered them to the Indian Premier League final in their debut season with victory against the Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.
It will not lead to a romantic recall by England but the renaissance of Toby Roland-Jones for Middlesex has been one of the feel-good stories of the first instalment of this season’s Championship.
