Watch out athletics world - Here comes Team India

Team India of course has had a few shining lights, who gave the rest of the athletics world a run for its money in their respective disciplines, from time to time on the global stage. The legendary Milkha Singh charged into the 1960 Rome Olympics having won the gold medals in the 200m and 400m sprints at the Tokyo Asian Games that year. He almost won a 400m bronze in Rome, only to heartbreakingly finish fourth, coming in just 0.1 seconds behind the bronze medallist Malcolm Spence of South Africa. That day in Rome, Milkha Singh couldn't grab an Olympic medal, but he created a National Record which stood for almost 40 years. Anju Bobby George shone brightest when she won the bronze medal in the 2003 World Championships in Paris in the women's long jump event. More recently, Hima Das made headlines in 2018, when she won the 400m gold at the U-20 World Championships. And then of course the crowning glory - javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra's gold at the Tokyo Olympics last year. The biggest prize in world sport - an Olympic gold medal - won by an Indian. The first Indian to win a gold medal at the Olympics in athletics ever and only the second overall (if you count Norman Pritchard's two silvers in the 1900 Games, representing India).

The lure of international T20 leagues could harm England's red-ball future

It is not quite an international retirement, more like a conscious uncoupling. Trent Boult’s decision to relinquish his New Zealand central contract to create more time to play in Twenty20 leagues is another indication of how rapidly cricket’s landscape is changing.

Watch: South Africa Batter Leaves Ball, Error In Judgement Proves Costly

South Africa are currently playing a warm-up fixture against England Lions ahead of their three-match Test series against England which begins on August 17. In the four-day game, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat. Khaya Zondo, batting at No.7, impressed for South Africa, as he scored a valuable 86-run knock. However, it was a huge error in judgement that cost him his wicket. Early on Day 2 of the match, pacer Sam Cook angled the ball in and it pitched just outside off. Zondo looked to leave the ball, but it kept coming in with the angle and hit the off-stump.

"Hey Please Don't Interfere...": Sunil Gavaskar's Stern Response To IPL Critics

The Indian Premier League (IPL) may get a dedicated two and half month exclusive window from the next Futures Tours and Programme (FTP) calender of the ICC starting 2024, according to several reports. If that happens, it will be another validation of the growing impact of the T20 franchise league, which is the richest cricket tournament in the world. Also in recent times, several IPL team owners have invested in sides at the United Arab Emirates T20 league and the South African T20 League.
