India's star batter Suryakumar Yadav shot up two places in the ICC men's T20I rankings for batters and is now second on the charts, only behind Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan. Suryakumar's recent blitz of 69 off 35 deliveries in the third T20I against Australia meant he moved above Pakistan captain Babar Azam and South Africa's Aiden Markram in the rankings. Earlier, Suryakumar had pipped Babar to go third in the rankings after his 25-ball 46 in the first T20I against Australia, but Babar went above him again after hitting a stunning century in the second T20I against England.
Shreyas Iyer, Shahbaz Ahmed and Umesh Yadav have been added to India squad for the three-match T20I series against South Africa, while Deepak Hooda has been ruled out with injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement on Wednesday. "Deepak Hooda is ruled out of the upcoming Mastercard South Africa Tour of India after sustaining a back injury. The all-rounder is at NCA for further management of his injury," the BCCI said in its statement.
Starting from the Asia Cup, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has come under much pressure. Though he took a five-wicket haul in the continental event in a match against Afghanistan, the veteran pacer was costly in the death overs. His poor bowling ended up being one of the reasons behind India not qualifying for the Asia Cup final. In the recently concluded T20I series against Australia, Bhuvneshwar played two matches and took one wicket. His economy was 13 RPO. Since he is a part of India's 15-member T20 World Cup squad, Bhuvneshwar's form is bound to increase the team management's concerns.
Umesh Yadav and all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed was added to India's squad for the three-match T20 series against South Africa, starting here on Wednesday. Senior pacer Mohammad Shami, who had missed the recently-concluded T20 series against Australia after contracting COVID-19 infection, is yet to recover completely and thus won't be a part of the T20 matches against the Proteas.
