India left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav would like to focus on his upcoming assignments rather than think about the ODI World Cup which is still a year away. Kuldeep (4/18) ran through the South African middle-order in the third ODI as India cantered home by seven wickets. "The World Cup is far away. I am not thinking about it. I have become very practical now with things. I focus on the series I play. I have become experienced now, so I have an idea how to bowl. My aim is to perform well in every series," Kuldeep said at the post-match press conference after India's seven-wicket win.
India defeated South Africa by 7 wickets in the third and deciding ODI match to seal the series 2-1 at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. India's skipper for the series, Shikhar Dhawan, won the toss in the final match and decided to bowl first. The bowlers proved his decision right by bundling out South Africa for 99 runs. Kuldeep Yadav shone with a four-wicket haul. Chasing a paltry target, India reached home in 19.1 overs, thanks to Shubman Gill's 49-run knock.
India's stand-in ODI captain Shikhar Dhawan is happy that his team was able to show a lot of character on tough pitches during the three-match series against South Africa. After losing the first game in Lucknow, India clinched the series with two one-sided victories over the Proteas. "The boys showed great character on such tough batting pitches. The bowlers were clinical today," Dhawan said after the match. "I am proud of the boys, the way they played in the series. The way they carried the responsibility and showed maturity. Would like to thank the support staff." The first game in Lucknow was a forgettable one for the 'Men in Blue' especially because of the number of catches that they missed.
