South Africa Skipper Temba Bavuma To Retire After Champions Trophy Exit? Star Pacer Says...

Former South Africa fast bowler Vernon Philander has backed Temba Bavuma to continue leading South Africa in ODIs, saying that the right-handed batter still has a couple of years left in him to be at the helm. Philander's comments come after South Africa lost their 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final to New Zealand by 50 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium. South Africa were tasked with chasing down 363, and despite Bavuma's 56, Rassie van der Dussen's 69 and David Miller's unbeaten hundred off 67 balls, they eventually made 312/9.

Jason Gillespie says he was undermined before quitting as Pakistan coach

ISLAMABAD: Jason Gillespie says he was undermined before quitting as Pakistan test cricket coach last December and has used a social media post to describe interim head coach Aaqib Javed as a “clown.” Gillespie was a fast bowler who played 71 tests and 97 one-day internationals for Australia from 1996-2006 before going into coaching. He was appointed last April for two years as Pakistan’s test coach but quit before a series in South Africa less than eight months later after an unsuccessful start. He was the second foreigner to leave Pakistan’s program in less than two months after South African Gary Kirsten stepped down as limited-overs coach in October. Aaqib, Pakistan’s national selector and interim head coach, acknowledged this week after Pakistan’s failure to reach the knockout stage of the Champions Trophy — following losses to New Zealand and India — that the chopping and changing hasn’t helped the national team. “We have changed nearly 16 coaches and 26 selectors in the last two years or so,” he was quoted as saying at a news conference to announce the latest overhaul of Pakistan’s limited-overs squads. “You put that formula on any team in the world, I think they will also be in the same situation. “Until you get consistency right from the top down to the bottom, from the chairman down, then your team will not progress.” Gillespie responded to those comments by posting an Instagram story late Wednesday describing the analysis as “hilarious.” “Aaqib was clearly undermining Gary and I behind the scenes campaigning to be the coach in all formats,” Gillespie posted.

After Yet Another ICC Knockout Match Exit, South Africa Coach's Heartbreaking Message

Yet another knockout stage heartbreak at yet another ICC event. But perennial bridesmaid South Africa remains on the right track two years before the ODI World Cup at home, feels the team's head coach Rob Walter after its semifinal exit from the Champions Trophy in Lahore. Having topped their group, South Africa came up short in the second semifinal against New Zealand in Lahore on Wednesday night and went down by 50 runs in a chase of 362. Walter said there are enough positives to take back home notwithstanding a tough loss.

US Confirms Bid For 2031 Women's World Cup After FIFA Boost

The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) said Wednesday it will press ahead with a joint bid for the 2031 Women's World Cup after a FIFA decision boosted the CONCACAF region's chances of staging the tournament. The USSF said in a brief statement on social media that it planned to "complete the bid process to host the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup" in partnership with the CONCACAF regional federation and its members. "We are excited by the opportunity to welcome teams and fans, inspire the next generation and grow the game regionally and globally," the US federation said.

Gautam Gambhir Targeted By South Africa Media With 'Hollow Victory' Jibe: "Cringe-Worthy..."

There has been a lot of chatter over the 'hybrid' nature of Champions Trophy 2025 and whether that handed India "unfair advantage" in their campaign. India played all of their matches in Dubai after they refused to travel to Pakistan due to political tensions. However, head coach Gautam Gambhir had a sharp retort to the comments and even went on to call the critics "perpetual cribbers". However, the South Africa media has taken aim at the former India opener and criticised his "cringeworthy arrogance" while stating that even if India triumph in the final, the victory will be "hollow" for Gambhir and Co. In a report published by South African media website iol.co.za, Gambhir was slammed for his comments on the topic and the report went to say that "his arrogance throughout this whole situation is cringe-worthy".

BCCI Vice President Shuts Down Pakistan Journalist On CT 2025 Final In Lahore Query: "Australia Should've..."

BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla on Wednesday said it is "very categorical and clear" that resumption of bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan is subjected to Indian government's clearance. The senior BCCI official, who is in Lahore on the invitation of the Pakistan Cricket Board to watch the Champions Trophy semifinal between New Zealand and South Africa, also said India team doesn't depend on favourable pitches to excel. "As far as you are asking about (cricket) between the two countries, it is very categorical and clear that it is the (Indian) government's decision. Whatever the government of India says, we will go as per them," Shukla told the Pakistan media on Wednesday.
