The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup Qualifier will be held across two venues in Lahore from April 9-19. Six teams will compete for two places in the main event to be held in India in October-November. Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, along with hosts India, have already qualified for the World Cup by virtue of finishing in the top six of the 10-team ICC Women's Championship (2022-25). The sixth edition of the Women's ODI World Cup Qualifier will see teams from four Full Members - Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, and the West Indies - compete with Associate nations Scotland and Thailand in the 15-match tournament.
Rohit Sharma is not going anywhere. After much speculation, that had the rumours miles running overtime, Rohit Sharma confirmed that he is not retiring from ODIs. "I am not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure no rumours are spread moving forward. Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (there is no future plan, whatever is going on will continue as it is)," he said. Rohit Sharma's reaction was appreciated by Dinesh Karthik.
South Africa batting great AB de Villiers hailed Rohit Sharma's record as a batter and captain after the India skipper lifted the ICC Champions Trophy and put an end to a lot of chatter about his retirement from the ODI format. India registered a four-wicket win over New Zealand in the summit clash to lift their third Champions Trophy title. With the recent accolade, Rohit became the second most successful Indian captain in terms of ICC titles. Under Rohit's captaincy, India lifted their second ICC silverware in less than nine months after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup title by beating South Africa in the final in Bridgetown, ending a more-than-decade-long ICC title drought stretching to the Champions Trophy win under Dhoni's leadership in 2013.
Australia legend Ricky Ponting believes Rohit Sharma is still going strong and a sense of unfinished business was behind his decision to continue playing and leading India in the 50-over format until the 2027 ODI World Cup to be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Barring the ODI World Cup, Rohit has won all ICC titles while captaining India. He came agonisingly close to laying his hands on the 50-over world title at home in 2023, only to lose to Australia in the final.
The Pakistan Super League is hoping to expand from six to eight teams after the 2025 season, PSL CEO Salman Naseer said on Thursday.
Ireland fly-half Jack Crowley will make his first start of this year’s Guinness Six Nations in Saturday’s round-five clash in Italy.
When previewing the International Cricket Council’s 2025 Champions Trophy for Arab News, Azeem Rafiq felt that India started as slight favorites. As the tournament progressed, it became apparent that several factors underlined that initial assessment. India’s superiority and team cohesion was sufficient to achieve an unbeaten route to the final in which a tenacious New Zealand was narrowly beaten.
