Mehdi Taremi was on target as Iran confirmed their spot in the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar with a 1-0 victory over Iraq at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran on Thursday.

Irán se ha convertido en la primera selección de Asia en sacar su billete para Qatar 2022, sin contar al equipo anfitrión, por supuesto. Por otro lado, Corea del Sur, segunda, también se impuso a Líbano (0-1) y tendrá que esperar al menos una jornada para asegurar su clasificación matemáticamente. Los surcoreanos sólo necesitan un punto en los próximos tres partidos para tener su presencia asegurada en la próxima Copa del Mundo. Eso sí, ya tiene asegurada al menos la respesca.
