RENNES, France :AC Milan reached the Europa League last 16 despite a 3-2 loss at Stade Rennais on Thursday as Benjamin Bourigeaud's hat-trick was not enough for the hosts to stop the Italian side completing a 5-3 aggregate victory.

AC Milan saw off a spirited fightback by Rennes to secure a place in the last 16 of the Europa League. The Serie A side had looked in control of the tie following a 3-0 win in the first leg at San Siro. The Azerbaijan side had won the first leg in Portugal 4-2, but after defender Elvin Jafarquliyev was sent off just before the hour, Braga rallied to wipe out the deficit with goals from Roger Fernandes and Alvaro Djalo. Matheus Silva restored Qarabag's advantage in the first half of extra time but Simon Banza's penalty made it 3-1 on the night, and level at 5-5 overall, before Akhundzade struck in added time to secure a dramatic win. Roland Sallai scored twice, including a stoppage-time equaliser, as Freiburg recovered from 2-0 down on the night to beat Lens 3-2 and progress to the last 16 after extra time, with the first leg in France having finished goalless. There was, though, no such drama as Benfica held out for a 0-0 draw at Toulouse to complete a 2-1 aggregate win.
