Jiu-jitsu bronze makes it 7 medals for Saudi Arabia at Asian Games
HANGZHOU, China: Saudi Arabian Abdulmalik Almurdhi collected the Kingdom’s seventh medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou after defeating his Jordanian opponent at jiu-jitsu on Thursday. Almurdhi took the bronze in the under-62 kg weight category after beating Jordan’s Khalil Alarnaut, a media statement reported. Saudi Arabia’s medal count has now gone up to seven: three golds, two silvers, and two bronze medals. Osama Qandeel was eliminated in the round of 16 in the under-69 kg weight category at jiu-jitsu after losing against his Kazakh contender 9-0. Meanwhile, the Kingdom’s weightlifter Ali Al-Khazal finished in first place in Group Two of the men’s 109 kg competition on Thursday.
Asian Games 2023: Charanjot Singh, Karman Tikka Go Down Fighting
Top seeded Indian Charanjot Singh and Karman Tikka bowed out of the Asian Games after suffering hard-fought defeats in the FC Online-4 game of the E-Sports event on Sunday. Charanjot Singh suffered a 0:2 defeat to China's Liu Jiacheng in his opening game but bounced back strongly with three consecutive wins. He won 2-0 against Aristorenas Jorrel of Phillipines, 2-1 against Alrowaihi RKM of Bahrain and 2-0 against Yessentayev Olzhas of Kazakhstan in the Losers Bracket Round 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
Oman hosts 10th West Asian Union Championship for Youth Football in December
MUSCAT: The Omani Football Federation will be hosting the 10th West Asian Union Championship for Youth in Muscat between December 10 and 20, 2023. Seven Arab countries including Jordan, UAE, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Yemen, in addition to the host, Oman, will participate in the championship that is being held for footballers born in 2008, said a media statement on Thursday. The tournament’s draw is scheduled to take place on November 23, 2023, at the West Asian Union Headquarters in Jordan’s capital, Amman, and will be broadcast on its official YouTube page. The Jordanian national team won the 9th championship which was held in Aqaba City, in Jordan, during the summer of 2022 after winning the final match 1-0 against Lebanon. Along with the two finalists, Yemen, Kuwait, Oman, Palestine, Syria and Iraq participated in the tournament’s ninth edition.
