NEW DELHI : India head coach Gautam Gambhir personally believes the country should not play any cricket with Pakistan, not even in neutral venues, after a deadly Islamist militant attack in Indian Kashmir last month.

The Indian armed forces, in the early hours of Wednesday, launched precision missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including the strongholds of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke. The strikes were in retaliation to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were gunned down.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, currently scheduled to go on till May 25, will continue normally, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source told ANI on Wednesday. This follows the development this morning after the successful execution of Operation Sindoor by the Indian Armed Forces and tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The source told ANI that the current circumstances will not have any effect on the IPL scheduling and matches, and it will go on as scheduled. The relations between India and Pakistan have taken a turn for the worse following the terror attack in Pahalgam. The rising political tensions have once again put the cricketing relations between the two countries under the scanner and it is not clear at the moment if they will play each other in international competitions. India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series in nearly a decade and a number of former India cricketers have also insisted on a complete boycott following the attacks. At an ABP event, Gambhir said the national team should not be playing the arch-rivals till cross-border terrorism ends. India have not played a full series against Pakistan since 2007 due to the tense relations between both countries. They only play each other at multi-team events and even that should be discontinued, said Gambhir.
