Pakistan Skipper Babar Azam Says Ready To Play 'Anyone, Anywhere' In India During ICC World Cup 2023

Pakistan are ready to take on any side at any venue in India during this year's World Cup, skipper Babar Azam said Thursday as the team awaited government approval to participate in the tournament. Pakistan are drawn to play India at Ahmedabad's 132,000-capacity Narendra Modi stadium on October 15 -- the first time they will meet on either's home turf since 2012. The neighbours are bitter political adversaries and usually only meet in international tournaments at neutral venues, most recently during the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. The Pakistan Cricket Board wrote to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the interior and foreign ministries this week asking for formal permission to take part in the tournament.

Australia's Ton-Up Mitchell Marsh Has Return To Remember In 3rd Ashes Test

Mitchell Marsh's run-a-ball 118 was the cornerstone of Australia's 263 all out on the first day of the third Ashes Test at Headingley on Thursday after the tourists collapsed either side of his blistering century. England fast bowler Mark Wood took 5-34 as the hosts backed up captain Ben Stokes' decision to send Australia into bat on a green-tinged pitch after winning the toss. Australia skipper Pat Cummins then reduced England to 22-2 before all-rounder Marsh, playing his first Test in nearly four years, had Zak Crawley (33) well caught at first slip by David Warner in the latest example of the tourists' superior fielding. At stumps, England were 68-3 -- a deficit of 195 runs -- with Joe Root 19 not out and Jonny Bairstow one not out on their Yorkshire home ground.

"Not Just India In India...": Babar Azam's Take On Pakistan's ICC World Cup 2023 Campaign

The rumblings in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will not have any bearing on the national team's performance in the ICC World Cup, or in the assignments prior to that, asserted skipper Babar Azam on Thursday. While addressing a press conference, Babar, one of the world's top batters at the moment, also said his team is looking at the World Cup as a whole and not just the marquee clash against arch-rivals India. When asked if the recent changes in the PCB leadership and selection committee affected the players, Babar said their work is to focus on cricket.

"Can't Make A Team Without...": Ex-Pakistan Star Questions Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's T20I Snub

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has questioned the exclusion of star batter Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from India's T20 squad for the tour of West Indies. The BCCI announced on Wednesday that Hardik Pandya will lead India during the five-match T20I series in West Indies, with Suryakumar Yadav deputising him. However, the biggest talking point was the exclusion of Rinku Singh, who enjoyed a brilliant season with the bat in the Indian Premier League earlier this year.
