Colombo's Asia Cup Matches Likely To Be Shifted To Hambantota

The Super Four games and the final of the Asia Cup are likely to be shifted from Colombo to the deep southern district of Hambantota, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sources said on Tuesday. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is expected to make an announcement later in the day. The decision has been made in view of the heavy rains in the capital city as well as in the central town of Kandy. Both of India's matches have been affected by rain. The much anticipated India-Pakistan clash at the Pallekele stadium in Kandy was called off after one innings due to heavy downpour on Saturday, while India's match against Nepal on Monday was also truncated due to rain.

India Clubbed With Egypt, Switzerland, Jamaica In Inaugural Men's Hockey5s World Cup

Reigning Asian champions India have been clubbed alongside Egypt, Switzerland, and Jamaica in Pool B of the upcoming FIH Men's Hockey5s World Cup slated from January 24-31 in Muscat. Sixteen national teams will compete in the inaugural edition of the tournament and they have been divided into four groups of four teams each. India earned their qualification for the tournament after beating Pakistan 4-4 (2-0 SO) at the inaugural Men's Hockey5s Asia Cup at Salalah, Oman on Saturday. The Netherlands have been drawn with Pakistan, Poland and Nigeria in Pool A.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny and vice president Rajeev Shukla attended Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) gala dinner at Lahore on Monday in which the former India cricketer described the atmosphere of an India-Pakistan match. Binny and Shukla travelled to Pakistan following an invitation to members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and other cricket boards by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to attend the mega event.

The Asia Cup 2023 was supposed to take place in Pakistan but the BCCI was not in favour of the arrangement and after extensive talks, a hybrid model was agreed upon where Pakistan would host four matches and nine matches (including all India matches) were to be held in Sri Lanka. However, with rain playing spoilsport in a number of matches taking place in Sri Lanka, the organisers have come under criticism for moving the tournament from Pakistan. Former Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Najam Sethi also lashed out at BCCI secretary Jay Shah for ignoring his request to host the matches in UAE.

The illness had prevented Das from joining the squad in Sri Lanka for the tournament opener, but after a clearance certificate from the medical team, the wicketkeeper batter will now team up with the squad for the Super 4 stage of the tournament, as per ICC. Bangladesh had sealed their qualification for the stage with a convincing 89-run win over Afghanistan on Sunday with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, taking the place of Das at the top of the order, making a memorable hundred.

Pakistan women's cricket team clinched a first series clean sweep against South Africa in Karachi. According to ICC, the Asian side completed the feat with yet another impressive performance as they registered a six-run triumph in the third and final match of their three-game T20I series against the Proteas. It meant Pakistan won all three games for the first time against South Africa, finishing with a 3-0 series scoreline in what was new captain Nida Dar's first series in charge.
