As India have officially begun their preparations for the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Perth, reportedly training behind closed doors on Wednesday at the WACA, Australian great Ian Healy thinks that tourists are making a mistake by opting for total privacy as he believes it can create an unhappy touring squad. According to The Sydney Morning Herald report, security guards covered the outside of the WACA nets with a black tarp to prevent eyes from watching India's preparations. It also claimed that construction workers at the WACA were even told, via an email, that they weren't allowed to take photos or be seen catching a peek of training while on break.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced a brand-new visual identity for the men's and women's ICC Champions Trophy. The latest development comes amid India's reported refusal to travel to Pakistan for next year's men's edition. The ICC Men's Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February-March next year. However, the Indian goverment is reluctant to send its team across the border, a decision which has been communicated to the International Cricket Council (ICC) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Former Pakistan cricket team star Basit Ali believes that VVS Laxman has established himself as a 'hot' contender to become the next India coach following the win over South Africa in the third T20I encounter on Wednesday. Laxman is currently the coach for the side in South Africa as Gautam Gambhir has travelled to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The team management decided to send Tilak Varma to bat at No.3 in the place of Suryakumar Yadav in the third T20I and the decision proved to be a good one as the youngster slammed a century. Basit Ali said that these decisions attract a lot of attention and it has now placed Laxman in a good position to succeed Gambhir.
Without senior stars like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, Australia will be hoping to bounce back in a three-match T20I series against Pakistan. Wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis will be leading Australia during the series. On the opposite side, Pakistan will be on a high, having defeated Australia in the ODI series, clinching their first series win in the country since 2002. Under new white ball captain Mohammad Rizwan, a young Pakistan side will hope to create more history in the T20I series. (LIVE SCORECARD)
A high-on confidence Pakistan will take on an Australia side devoid of many stars in a three-match T20I series. After the nation's first series win in Australia in 22 years, Pakistan will be hoping to script more history under new white ball captain Mohammad Rizwan. Australia will be led by Josh Inglis, in the absence of both T20I captain Mitchell Marsh and Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins. Australia will be hoping that Jake Fraser-McGurk finds form, while Pakistan will be relying on their pace attack to do the damage.
Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi expressed hope that each of eight teams will be in Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy next year. Taking to X, Shahid said that cricket is at a "crucial crossroads", facing one of its "greatest challenges". "Cricket is at a crucial crossroads, facing perhaps one of its greatest challenges since the late 1970s. Now is the time to put differences aside and let the game unite us. If countries once divided by history can come together in the Olympic spirit, why can't we do the same for cricket - and for the Champions Trophy? As stewards of this game, we owe it to cricket to keep egos in check and focus on its growth and spirit. I hope to see every team in Pakistan for CT25, to experience our warmth and hospitality, and to leave with unforgettable memories that transcend the field," Afridi said in a post on X.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is facing an uncertain future. The BCCI, after not receiving clearance from the Indian government, has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that it will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy in 2025. The Pakistan Cricket Board, the designated host, is adamant that there will be no hybrid model where India play its matches at a neutral venue. The PCB has also shot off a letter to the ICC asking the world body to give in writing its and BCCI's stance.
