South Africa Seal Top Spot In WTC Standings, Beat Pakistan By 10 Wickets In 2nd Test

Temba Bavuma-led South Africa on Monday clinched a massive 10-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second and final match of the series at the Newlands in Cape Town. With the win, the Proteas whitewashed Pakistan in the two-match Test series. According to ICC, Pakistan began Day 4 of the second Test trailing South Africa by 208 runs with nine wickets in hand in their second innings. Unbeaten overnight, Pakistan skipper Shan Masood continued eating away at the South Africa total with help from the Pakistan middle order. However, South Africa managed to eke out the wickets of Khurram Shahzad (18) and Kamran Ghulam (28) in the first session.

However, the second-innings total of 478 was not enough due to South Africa's huge lead early on, and a final target of 58 was easily chased down by the Proteas. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and pacer Renuka Singh Thakur have been rested for India women's three-match home ODI series against Ireland, the BCCI announced on Monday. Opener Smriti Mandhana will lead the side in the series, beginning on January 10 at Rajkot, in the absence of Harmanpreet. Harmanpreet had suffered a knee injury during the home series against the West Indies last month, forcing her to sit out of the last two T20Is before returning to play three ODIs. Before that, the 35-year-old had sustained a neck injury during the match against Pakistan in the Women's T20 World Cup in Dubai in October last year.

Day 3 of the second Test between South Africa and Pakistan in Cape Town had a heated encounter between Babar Azam and Wiaan Mulder. Coming out to bat again, Pakistan ended the day at 213/1 after their openers Shan Masood (102*) and Babar (81) stitched a record opening partnership of 205 runs.

West Indies Team Arrives For First Test Series In Pakistan In 18 Years

The West Indies cricket team arrived in Islamabad on Monday for their first Test series in Pakistan in 18 years. The West Indies last toured Pakistan for a Test series in 2006 though they have been to the country for two white-ball rubbers in between. The visitors will play a three-day tour game against Pakistan Shaheens from January 10 in Islamabad before the first Test in Multan from January 17. The second Test is scheduled from January 25 at the same venue.
