Racing fans meet Formula E drivers at autograph session

JEDDAH: Fans at the Jeddah E-Prix were given the opportunity to meet some of motorsport’s biggest stars in person on Friday in a pit-lane walk and autograph session. Some 21 superstar drivers were featured at the autograph session, all taking time out of their busy schedules to meet fans, have their pictures taken, and sign all kinds of memorabilia. Hadeer Mohammed, a Saudi student who attended Jeddah’s first race of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with her friends, told Arab News that she was an enthusiast, and added: “I’m a big fan of both Formula One and Formula E and I was very happy when they announced they would host the Formula E in Jeddah.” She said she was happy to be given the opportunity to meet the drivers, take selfies and get autographs. She said: “I just got an autograph of Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato of Nissan.” The Formula E drivers made themselves available at the fan zone with the teams providing photos, postcards and other goodies. Adel Hasanain said that he arrived early in the day to interact with the motor racing icons. He said: “It was an excellent opportunity to meet our favorite drivers.

MUNICH: Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has extended his contract with the club through June 2030. The Bavarian powerhouse said Friday that the 21-year-old Musiala, who joined the club as a youth from English side Chelsea in 2019, signed a new deal extending the one he had for another season. “People go to the stadium for players like Jamal Musiala. He’s a truly exceptional player,” Bayern president Herbert Hainer said.

Morocco’s history-making surfer Ramzi Boukhiam believes best is yet to come

ABU DHABI: Last summer at the Paris Olympics, Moroccan surfer Ramzi Boukhiam attacked one monster wave after another at Tahiti’s iconic Teahupo’o, going toe-to-toe with Brazilian Joao Chianca in one of the most memorable heats of the Games. The duo traded perfect 8-to-10-foot barrels throughout the heat, with Boukhiam scoring a stunning 9.70 on one of his waves. But the Moroccan’s total, which combines the highest-scoring two waves per surfer, ended up being just 0.3 points short of Chianca’s tally and he missed out on a spot in the quarter-finals and a chance to fight for an Olympic medal. “It was pretty much the conditions that I love, that I dream of. Perfect heats, at perfect Teahupo’o, big waves, barrels.

South Africa Great's 'English Not Great' Jibe At Babar Azam: "Difficult To Get..."

Former South Africa batter Herschelle Gibbs has attacked former Pakistan captain Babar Azam over his English speaking skills, adding that the language barrier makes it hard for others to communicate with him. This isn't the first time that a current or former cricketer has questioned Babar's ability to communicate in English. While responding to a fan's query, who asked Gibbs to give some batting advice to Babar amid his lean patch, the former South Africa opening batter suggested that Babar's poor communication skills can be a bit challenging for others to put across a thought.

New Zealand Suffer Big Champions Trophy 2025 Injury Blow, Star Pacer Ruled Out

Pacer Ben Sears has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a hamstring injury, a significant setback for New Zealand ahead of the ICC event which kicks off on February 19. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has named Jacob Duffy as Sears' replacement. “Sears felt some pain in his left hamstring at the team's first training in Karachi on Wednesday and a subsequent scan revealed a minor tear that would require at least two weeks' rehabilitation,” NZC said in a statement. “The rehabilitation timeframe means that Sears would likely be available for only the team's final Group A match against India in Dubai, and so the decision was made to rule him out.” Sears' absence has paved the way for Duffy, who is currently with the squad for the ODI Tri-Series against Pakistan and South Africa.

Babar Azam Surpasses Virat Kohli En Route For Huge ODI Record

Pakistan batter Babar Azam became the joint-fastest batter to score 6,000 ODI runs during the final of the ODI tri-series against New Zealand at the National Stadium on Friday. Babar, opening alongside Fakhar Zaman, began cautiously, struggling to find fluency early on after Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan opted to bat first. In the seventh over, he seized on an overpitched delivery from Jacob Duffy, driving it elegantly through covers to bring up 6,000 ODI runs in his 123rd innings-equalling former South African great Hashim Amla's record for the fastest to the mark.

Ahead Of Champions Trophy, 2017 Edition Winning Captain Backs Pakistan As Favourites

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed believes that Mohammed Rizwan-led side has a "good chance" of defending their ICC Champions Trophy title in front of home fans. Under Sarfaraz's leadership, Pakistan defeated India by 180 runs in the Champions Trophy final in 2017 at The Oval to lift the title for the first time. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter added that players from the title-winning side including Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman will be a key factor in their journey in the eight-team competition.

Liverpool’s Slot admits ‘emotions got the better of me’, explaining derby red card

LIVERPOOL: Arne Slot admitted “emotions got the better of me” after he was shown a red card following Liverpool’s fiery 2-2 Premier League draw against neighbors Everton in midweek.Liverpool were on course to extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points at Goodison Park on Wednesday but James Tarkowski struck a stunning volley to level in the eighth minute of stoppage time.Abdoulaye Doucoure’s wild celebrations in front of the away fans sparked a furious reaction, with Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones confronting Doucoure, leading to the dismissal of both men. With some supporters on the pitch, stewards and police became involved before Liverpool boss Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also sent off by referee Michael Oliver.Slot, whose team host struggling Wolves on Sunday, is now waiting for the Football Association to review Oliver’s match report before he finds out what, if any, sanction he will face.He could face no further action, be reminded of his responsibilities, or be charged, which would likely result in a touchline ban.The Dutchman told reporters on Friday there were “many things in extra (stoppage) time that led to me being quite emotional” but was unwilling to go into details about the incident.“I think what happened was that the extra time, the intentional five minutes that ended up being eight... and the emotions got the better of me,” said.“And if I could do that differently, if I look back at it, I would love to do it differently.
