MELBOURNE : Australia will not decide on the makeup of their attack for the second test against Pakistan until seeing the pitch but their intelligence on Karachi has them leaning toward playing two spinners, interim head coach Andrew McDonald said.
Pakistan's first home Test against Australia in nearly a quarter of a century has not been the best advert for the longest format of the game. It has nothing to do with the quality on show from both teams, rather the pitch at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has left a lot to be desired. Australia are on their first tour to Pakistan since 1998, having previously refused to visit over security fears, and the Test series was being seen as a chance for Pakistan to test their skills at home against one of the top cricketing nations. However, the first Test has been disappointing with the pitch offering nothing for the bowlers.
The first Test between Pakistan and Australia in Rawalpindi ended in a draw and it didn't seem to please Shahid Afridi. The match saw batters enjoying a dream run in the middle with the pitch offering minimum or negligible assistance to the fast bowlers. Afridi seemed quite miffed by not only the pitch, but also the team combination the home side went with. Speaking to Samaa TV, Afridi said: "They didn't think about Australia, the bottom-line was 'we shouldn't lose'. But in the next two Tests in Lahore and Karachi, they have to make good pitches. Results have to come on those pitches. You have to take advantage of your home series, or else when you go to Australia, you're going to struggle."

On one hand, Ravindra Jadeja displayed a world-class all-round effort that included a knock of 175 not out apart from taking nine wickets in the match. Other major contributions included Rishabh Pant's 96 with the bat. However, one name that may not have been talked about a lot was that of Ravichandran Ashwin. The 18-year-old's form is expected to be crucial to the team's chances of landing a first ever ICC title. "Shafali has already proved herself. She is a very exciting cricketer.
